DiscTrac Lost Disc SMS Consent

This page documents how DiscTrac collects SMS consent for lost-disc recovery messages.

DiscTrac helps participating disc golf stores notify disc owners when a lost disc is turned in with a handwritten phone number. Messages sent from this program are transactional only and relate to lost-disc recovery. DiscTrac does not send marketing or promotional SMS messages from this number.

IMPORTANT: WRITING YOUR NUMBER ON A DISC IS NOT SMS OPT-IN

Voluntarily writing a phone number on a disc indicates that the owner wants to be contacted if that disc is found. It does not subscribe the person to ongoing SMS messaging.

That written number only permits DiscTrac to send one consent-request text asking whether the recipient wants store location details. Full SMS consent is obtained only when the recipient replies YES with the unique code in that message.

If the recipient does not reply YES, DiscTrac sends no store location details and no additional recovery messages.

HOW THE CONSENT PROCESS WORKS

Step 1 — Written contact information on the disc A disc owner may write their mobile phone number on their disc for lost-and-found purposes.

Step 2 — Store verification in the DiscTrac Store app When a participating store receives such a disc, staff review the handwritten contact information in the DiscTrac Store app. Staff must confirm the phone number is written on the disc before any text may be sent. Staff may also save the intake without sending a text.

Step 3 — Consent-request SMS (no location details) If staff choose to notify the owner, DiscTrac sends a one-time SMS asking the recipient to confirm they want location details.

Step 4 — Express SMS opt-in via reply The recipient must reply YES with the unique code included in the consent-request message.

Step 5 — Location details sent only after YES After a valid YES reply, DiscTrac sends a second message with the store name and address where the disc is being held.

Consent-request message (sent first): DiscTrac: A disc with this phone number was turned in at a disc golf shop. Reply YES 123456 to receive location details. Reply STOP to opt out. Reply HELP for help. Msg&data rates may apply.

Location details message (sent only after YES): DiscTrac: Your disc is at [Store Name], [Store Address]. Ask for lost & found. Reply STOP to opt out.

OPT-OUT AND HELP

Recipients may reply STOP at any time to opt out of future messages. Recipients may reply HELP for assistance.
